South Florida fashion designer re-creates dress worn by Celia Cruz

Celia Cruz was long known as the Queen of Salsa. The Afro-Latina artist electrified audiences worldwide with her performances on stage, and with her bold style. Now a local fashion designer is making his mark in a big way by recreating a dress once worn by the late Cuban singer Celia Cruz.Together: Project CommUNITYDavid Maison was born in Cuba and is a fourth-generation designer.”This is the dress she wore the first time she performed at Club Tropicana which was a big deal it was one of the most famous venues in Cuba,” says David Maison.The original dress was on display in the Smithsonian, but the lighting took its toll.
