Abrams says it might be time to think beyond the skinny jeans, as wider-leg styles are everywhere this season.
WOODMERE, Ohio — It’s the perfect weekend to get out and about and enjoy all that Northeast Ohio fall has to offer, but if you’re not sure what to wear, we have you covered.
Our 3News Style Contributor Hallie Abrams brought our cameras to EVEREVE at Eton Chagrin in Woodmere for a look at the denim trends you need to know about for today’s Fashion Friday, and it’s all about wider-leg styles this season.
“The big trends are jeans that are wider, jeans that are more of a boot cut, a flare, a trouser,” Abrams says. “Now, if we’re talking about denim and wider denim, you have to keep a few things in mind when it comes to styling.”
However, Abrams says you don’t have to panic if you’re still devoted to your skinny jeans.
“We’re moving away from skinny jeans. Skinny jeans are not out; you can still wear them and if you like them you should certainly wear them,” she explained. “But when you wear them, maybe you’ll wear them with a high boot, maybe you’ll wear them with a longer blazer. [There are] different ways to make it feel more modern and current, but they’re absolutely not out.”
If you are in the market to try some new looks, Hallie says to look for boot cut, trouser, cargo and stovepipe styles, as seen on Hallie’s friend Bonnie in the video above. Still, there are some styling tips to keep in mind.
“We’re going to want a shoe that’s tighter in the [ankle] shaft,” she told us. “You want your boot or your shoe to go underneath the wider leg, so you want it to be tighter so it’s not all thick and thick at the bottom.”
And when it comes to styling the rest of your outfit, Hallie says it’s important to highlight your waistline.
“One of the biggest takeaways, I think — and please ladies, don’t push back yet, hear me out — tucking in [your tops] to a wider denim, because if you’re wearing a wider pant, you want to see the waist. It makes the waist more relevant.”
There’s one final piece of style advice Hallie says everyone should keep in mind.
“My one caveat is that if a trend doesn’t work for you [that’s OK]. I just want you to be trend informed, know what the trends are, so then you can choose to opt in or opt out.”
