Last weekend, I couldn’t believe my luck as I thrifted an old L.L. Bean barn coat for $15. Just days prior, Prada had shown a very similar jacket layered over a sheer pencil skirt and pumps. The contrast between the rugged jacket and delicate, sexy skirt was incredibly chic, and got me thinking: even the most utilitarian items can be extremely stylish in the right context. Gorpcore and the rise of Arc’teryx as the creative-director-bro uniform is one example, just as Crocs—once ridiculed for their blobby, bulbous shape—are in a constant cycle of high fashion collaboration.
