Mixing Zara and Chanel, The Princess of Wales Is the Queen of High-Low Fashion

If the very notion of a royal family might seem antithetical to certain elements of modern life, how does a 21st-century royal dress? Kate Middleton has made great efforts to be seen as relatable in her wardrobe: rewearing affordable high-street brands just as much as she does Jenny Packham couture.

Less than a week after wearing a much-admired (and fairly affordable) co-ord from Sézane, the princess dressed in a double-breasted Zara blazer while watching England play Fiji in the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup over the weekend. She first wore the £65.99 piece while visiting the Landau Forte College in Derby back in February and she has worn a scarlet version on two further occasions: to visit Kent and Copenhagen.

Whooping from the terraces and shaking hands with the English rugby team post-match, the Princess of Wales wore that blazer with wide-legged Roland Mouret trousers, a stainless steel Cartier watch and a classic Chanel bag. None of those come cheap, of course, but lots of people will be looking up to the princess as a figure of aspiration. The high-low appeal of her wardrobe is what keeps it all ticking.
