A style pro has listed the fashion trends she believes everyone will think are ‘ugly’ in five to ten years.
Ellie, from the US, said people will look back on ‘micro-trends’ like denim maxi skirts, chunky sneakers, slicked back hair and biker shorts with regret.
Many agreed with the 20-year-old’s hot takes but some were quick to defend their favourite styles.
First off the bat, Ellie said while she has started to come around to denim maxi skirts, she’s convinced it won’t be long until we find them ‘ugly’ again.
‘My initial reaction when I first saw one not being worn on a model was, ‘What the f***, granny?’. I will eventually feel that way again,’ she said in a TikTok video.

‘I think we can all agree if we saw a maxi denim skirt two years ago we would all think it’s super ugly and I live by this rule: anything that was ugly will be ugly again.’
Similarly, Ellie said the same goes for cargo maxi skirts and anything cargo-style as she said people will eventually find the trend ‘weird’.
The next trend on Ellie’s list she said will ‘ruffle some feathers’ was the slicked back hair look.
‘I don’t necessarily think this one will ever be ugly but I just don’t think it’ll be as cute as it is right now,’ she explained.
‘It used to be all about sexy, messy Victoria Secret bombshell hair and we will eventually float back to that.’
Ellie said she can’t wait for the trend of clothing with ruched details to be ‘dead’.
‘It was just so over done these past few years that it looks so cheap and screams fast fashion now,’ she said,
‘I can’t wait for it to be over think it’s so ugly now, I just waiting for everyone else to catch on.’
Clothing with mesh details was something Ellie said was big a couple of years ago but is already starting to fade and didn’t love crochet clothing.
‘I actually really like crochet right now. I think in five or ten years we’re going to look back and think that was kind of childish,’ she said.
The fashionista slammed tops and dresses with multiple cut outs.
‘I’m so sick of a top that has like eight different triangles and all this negative space in it, I don’t understand it,’ she said.
‘I used to buy into this a lot, like it’s cool, it’s sexy – no, it’s not, it’s cheap looking.’
Ellie wasn’t a fan of chunky accessories like sneakers and jewellery.
‘I think we’re starting to enter this very sleek fashion era and the chunk, it’s not going to go with it,’ she said.
Her final trend was biker shorts saying it ‘was ugly, will be ugly again’.
‘Don’t get personally offended because my opinion is entirely irrelevant, I’m a nobody with zero qualifications but I’m kinda always right so we’ll see,’ she joked.
Ellie’s clip drew in more than 3.3million views and divided users in the comments, many of whom were on board with her controversial opinions.
‘I’m SO sick of ruching and it’s basically on every item if you’re shopping plus size. It’s INESCAPABLE,’ one woman said.
‘I agree drawstring ruching is on the way out,’ another agreed while a third wrote: ‘2023 slick back= 2013 sock bun’.
‘Maxi denim skirts will never be a vibe,’ one user replied.
‘Cut outs have ruined so many potentially good pieces,’ someone added.
However some weren’t so convinced with one saying: ‘I think black mesh tops won’t be out of style for a while’.
‘Biker shorts and really baggy shirt is a fire combo,’ a second commented.
‘Crochet??! Crochet has been a thing for decades,’ someone else pointed out and another argued: ‘I’ll stay with chunky shoes FOREVER’.
